The Spirit is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
I’m pretty convinced at this point that I want to live my life believing God. Too much is at stake, and too much adventure stands to be missed. If faith pleases God and invites such incomparable divine intervention in my life, I want to exercise it lavishly, don’t you?
But like much of what God asks from us, we have to receive it from Him before we can offer it back. Even our initial faith to believe Christ for salvation came through the work and conviction of the Holy Spirit. We can’t just manufacture faith from what the Scripture calls our “natural man.” Faith is ours from God.
